Yoed Rabin, BS, MS, D.Sc

Professor, Mechanical Engineering

Yoed Rabin joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in 1994. Since then, Rabin held primary academic positions at the Division of Surgical Oncology and the Department of Human Oncology at Allegheny University of the Health Sciences—affiliated with Hahnemann University Hospital (1994-1998), the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technion—Israel Institute of Technology (1997-2000), and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at CMU (2000-).

Rabin has a broad range of research interests in areas of energy modalities in biology and medicine, including cryopreservation (the preservation of tissues in low temperatures), cryosurgery (the destruction of cancer by freezing), hyperthermia (the destruction of cancer by heating), thermal regulation of the human body, blood flow, and medical imaging. Research activity at the Biothermal Technology Laboratory (BTTL), which Rabin heads, integrates the development of sensors, instrumentation, surgical devices, measurement techniques, physical modeling, numerical methods, computation tools, and thermal design.
